Service Description:

Driving competence evaluations * driving assessment is completed in one day, under one roof * operating under the approval of the Ministry of Transportation * services include medical fitness to drive evaluations, driver training, vision waiver assessments, vehicle and adaptive equipment prescriptions, and driver anxiety assessments/ reintegration * evaluators are Registered Occupational Therapists and also Driver Rehabilitation Specialists
Bookings are completed through Barrie office, and driving assessments are offered in different locations throughout Ontario including Barrie, Collingwood, Hamilton, Kitchener, Oakville, Sault Ste Marie, the GTA and other areas in Ontario on a case-by-case basis
Some conditions that may result in a need of an evaluation are:
- Traumatic brain injury
- Stroke
- Amputation
- Driving anxiety, fear of driving
- Spinal cord injury
- Cerebral palsy
- Multiple sclerosis
- Parkinson's disease
- Visual impairments
- Early dementia
Evaluations consist of three parts:- the first portion of the assessment is completed in-clinic and includes vision screening (to ensure minimum requirements for driving are met), cognitive assessment (reaction time, thinking skills, etc) and a physical assessment (movement, strength, feeling, etc)
- the second part is the on-road assessment conducted in a vehicle
- the third part is the feedback session which is a review of all the testing completed and the Occupational Therapist's interpretation of the results * the assessment takes approximately 2.5-3 hours

Anyone whose driving competence is questionable due to a medical condition, medications, or natural decline affecting mental abilities
