Hours: Mon-Sun 8:30am-4:30pm * Thu until 8pm
Service Description: Ensure that household medical waste is placed in the garbage * household medical waste includes:

  • casts
  • catheters
  • dialysis waste (i.e. tubing, filters, disposable towels and sheets)
  • disposable pads, gloves and masks
  • colostomy bags
  • gastric and nasal tubes
  • IV bags and tubing
  • soiled dressings and incontinence products
  • sponges

When placing household medical waste in the garbage:
1.     place it inside two plastic bags (double-bag it), and
2.     place the double-bagged waste in the garbage.


Sharps must be placed in biohazard containers * sharps include needles, syringes, lancets, injectors, and prefilled pens * biohazard containers are available for free at the Region’s Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) or through pharmacies participating in the Ontario Sharps Collection Program (healthsteward.ca) *customers can pick them up, and dispose of them, for free.
